Luminous Counseling
Brooks
Witter,
MA, LPC
My goal as a therapist is to help you to live a more
fulfilling,
engaged and meaningful life. I have been providing compassionate and
effective counseling in Boulder to adults, young adults, couples and
families since 2004. What I love most about this work is the
opportunity to help my clients learn, apply and practice real skills to
help them get where they would like to be going in life.
I have worked extensively
with clients who
have struggled with mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, and
bipolar, and also work very well with people going through major life
transitions, "failure to launch" issues, existential and spiritual
crises, and other issues related to general dissatisfaction with one's
quality of life.
I received an MA in Contemplative Psychotherapy from Naropa
University in 2005, and have integrated a number of therapeutic
approaches into my work, primarily Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
(ACT).
What is ACT therapy?
ACT is an evidence-based
practice that
seeks to help clients articulate their values in life and learn skills
to live a life in greater alignmentwith those values. In my work as an
ACT therapist, I utilize a lot of mindfulness practices to help my
clients find more space and freedom from stuck patterns of thought and
feeling, and to help them unhook from habitual patterns that no longer
serve them in living a valued life.
My Values as a Therapist
- Fostering clear, open lines of communication
- Respecting the dignity of all people
- Authentic presence
- Using my head and my heart to benefit my clients' lives
- Clear boundaries
- Courage and humility
Clear, honest communication is a value I hold, strengthened by my graduate studies at Naropa University in Psychotherapy.
